Mary Perram was born Mary Ann Williams, in
Clapton, Middlesex, about 1816. She and her
husband John Perram, of Lower Clapton, Middlesex,
had the following children: Ellen Ann, born about
1844 in England; Alice, born about 1847, died
young; James, born about 1848 in Tecumseth
Township, Simcoe County, Canada West (now
Ontario), died young; Lydia, born about 1850,
Tecumseth Township; Walter Hawkins, born about
1852, Tecumseth Township; Henry Topham, born about
1854, Tecumseth Township; Charlotte, born about
1857, Tecumseth Township.
John Perram died in 1861 in Tecumseth Township,
after farming there for about 15 years.
In or about 1871, Mary Ann and her children moved
to Toronto. Their first address was 306 King West,
where they lived for less than 3 years. By 1874
they were living at 505 Church. In 1878 they moved
to 4 Wellesley Place, where they remained only 2-3
years. In 1881 a P.D. Conger was resident at that
address.
By the spring of 1881 Mary Ann and her daughters
Lydia and Charlotte were living in London, England
and the eldest daughter, Ellen, had joined a
convent in New York City (Sister of Mercy). The
two sons, Henry and Walter seem to have remained
in Canada. Henry moved to the Niagara region.
Walter worked for the Dominion Bank and then the
Federal Bank for several years in Aurora and
Toronto..
4 Wellesley Place is located on part of Lots 44
and 45, Plan 30, in the City of Toronto. Mary A.
Perram purchased this property from B. H. Dixon on
the 1st of April, 1876 for $1875.
